Matjaž Počivavšek

Matjaž Počivavšek was born in Ljubljana in 1955 and graduated from the Department of Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana in 1978 with Professor Slavko Tihec. He specialized in statuary art at the same Academy and continued his postgraduate studies at the New York Studio School with Professor William Tucker, and at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris (in the studio of Professor Claude Viseux). He received the student Prešeren award and the Zlata ptica award in 1980, the Prešeren Fund award and Pollock-Krasner award in New York in 1991, and the Jakopič award in 2001. He has been teaching statuary art at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana since 1996. He lives and works in Ljubljana and Paris.
